Frequently
Asked Questions about Baltimore
REACH Internship:
1. Am I interpreting the guidelines correctly
- - you would like to receive all materials as a packet
instead of getting recommendations separately from the rest
of the application? And, to whom should the recommendations
be addressed?
Your letters of recommendation (please
send 2 copies of each) should be enclosed with the rest
of your application materials. Your referees can place their
recommendations in an envelope and sign across the flap
before giving it to you to ensure privacy. Please address
the recommendations to 'Baltimore Consortium Selection Committee'.
2. Can I submit additional recommendations?
We will only consider two recommendations
as indicated in our application guidelines. Please do not
send additional recommendations with your application.
3.My school finishes the academic year
past the summer internship start date. Can I still apply
to the summer internship?
This issue is decided on a case-by-case
basis. Please contact the director at 410-889-4700 or director@baltimorereach.org
for additional information.
4. What are the dates of the program? Can
I attend for 8 discontinuous weeks? How many days can I
miss?
Please check back for
more information and exact dates, or contact Baltimore REACH
at 410-889-4700. You must attend the program for these 8
continuous weeks. The Baltimore Consortium is a demanding
summer program, which will require your full time (40 hrs/wk)
involvement. Thus, you cannot miss more than 3 days of the
internship.
5. Who would be a good source for the second
letter of recommendation from someone of my choice? Should
it be someone working in the clinical field, in academia,
or in the community?
Please choose someone who knows you well
to write your recomendation. It does not matter if your
reference works in a clinical environment, in academia,
or in a community setting.
6. Where will I be placed and who will
be my mentor?
Your mentor will be from a community-based
organization (CBO), which will host you during the summer.
Both your organizational placement and your mentor will
be determined through a matching process that will occur
after students are selected for the program. Your organizational
placement will be decided based on the interests you expressed
in your application.
7. How competitive is the program?
The level of competitiveness depends on
how many applications we receive each year.
8. When will I be notified about my application?
We typically notify students during the
month of March. Exact notification dates will be annouced
on this site. Please check back for more information, or
contact Baltimore REACH at 410-889-4700.
9. Do you emphasize grades, or are you
more concerned with our answers to the essay questions?
You are not evaluated upon grades. In fact,
we do not ask you to submit a transcript as part of the
application process. You are primarily evaluated on your
essays, recommendations, and resume.
10. Should I apply as early as possible,
or do you look at applications only after the deadline?
While it is preferable that you submit
your application materials well before the deadline, we
will not evaluate applicants until after the deadline.
11. Is the deadline considered to be the
day the internship application is due, or the day it needs
to be postmarked?
The application must be received ON OR
BEFORE the application deadline. - NO EXCEPTIONS.
